American Arts and Crafts Tile of an Armadillo, Bees, and a Dragonfly

A charming one of a kind hand made tile has a busy design depicting an armadillo amid flowers, bees, and a dragonfly. The image is deeply carved, the clay of the brick red background and two sides are stippled with a stiff brush. There are two manufactured holes for mounting. Measures 6 1/4" tall, 5 3/4" wide and 3/4" thick. Very good original condition. There is a little flaking to the enamel.

I purchased a few of these animal related tiles years ago in Florida. Certainly part of a larger mural, where the stippled sides acted as a finished edge. I can imagine that these were part of the signage in one of those roadside tourist attractions which proliferated in the early part of the 20th Century, now long gone to history.
