Large Flint Faience Arts and Crafts Tile

This large Arts and Crafts tile was made at the Flint Faience Tile Company (1921-1933) in Flint MI. Decorated by hand in a squeezebag technique the tile has an interesting geometric BoHo design of interlocking heart shapes set against a dark background. The tile measures 10 1/8" x 10 1/4" and 3/4" thick. It was never installed and is marked with an ink mark of "Spec. A" on the back, an impressed 4 and FLINT FAIENCE & TILE CO HANDCRAFT. The surface is in excellent condition. A  shallow flake is colored in on a corner.

Although the tile company was short lived, it may be better known for making spark plugs for the Detroit auto industry.
