Royal Delft Tile, Owls at Night, Arts and Crafts Porceleyne de Fles

This wonderful Arts and Crafts era tile was made by Porcelyne de Fles otherwise known as Royal Delft. Designed in cuenca, or raised line, with matte crystalline matte glazes, the tile shows a pair of owls in a dark sky perching on the ruins of a building. It is self framed with hanging holes incised into the top edge. A wire, string, or ribbon can be inserted into the holes to hang on the wall. Measures 4 3/4" tall, 8 3/4" wide, and 1/2" thick. This is one of the animal tiles designed by L.E.F Bodart (1888-1933) in the 1910's. Impressed mark on the back. The tile is in excellent condition.
Although Dutch, these tiles were often sold in the USA by the Pardee Tile Company of Perth Amboy, NJ in the 1920's.
