This handsome Art Deco era tile is press molded, carved then covered in matte and crystalline glazes. It was made at Flint Faience Tile Company (1921-1933) in Flint Michigan. The Fleur de Lis design may be a nod to Michigan's French past. The tile measures 6" square and 3/4" thick. The condition is fair. There is some wear around the edges of the design. The back shows saw marks, cutting off any identifying marks.
To make the tiles at Flint Faience was a time consuming task. They were hand glazed and finished. Although it was a superior product it was always only a sideline to its manufacture of spark plugs for the auto industry.
