Framed Vintage Mexican Rugerio Talavera Tile Man and Burro
This vintage Mexican tile by Rugerio is intricately painted. Within the blue border is a scene of a man in a serape and sombrero walking behind his burro or donkey. They stand near an agave plant on a hill which overlooks farmland and a distant volcano, all under blue skies and puffy white clouds. This tile is very detailed and the black cuerda seca lines are raised. Signed Rugerio on the lower left. Housed in an old painted wood frame in the Moderne style, the marriage of the tile and frame probably dates to the 1930-40's. Overall measurements are 6 7/8" square and 1 1/2" deep. The tile is about 5 1/4" square. The deep frame enables the tile to sit safely on a shelf if you prefer not to hang it on a wall. It remains in excellent original condition. One of the best Rugerio tiles I've had.
