Hercules Hunting the Deer of Artemis
$ 125.00
Made in the style of early Guido Gambone designs for Cantagalli, this large, nearly 10" tile, shows a scene from the fable the Twelve Labors of Hercules. A muscular loin cloth clad Hercules aims his arrow at the Golden Stag of Artemis, his pet dog Cerberus at his feet.
This Italian tile measures 9 3/4" square and 5/8" thick. Although the design hearkens back to the 1930's I suspect this tile dates from the 1960-80's. There are embedded holes on the top edge to facilitate hanging. Nice patina of age to the raw clay of the back.
What a way to crush on a hunky comic Hercules while exhibiting your deep knowledge of Greek mythology.
