Royal Delft Porceleyne de Fles
Royal Delft Sailboat Tile in an Arts and Crafts Frame
$ 225.00
This is a handsome Arts and Crafts era tile by Porceleyne de Fles AKA Royal Delft. The scene is of a sailboat on the ocean, the sky filled with puffy white clouds. It is made in the cuenca, or raised line process, and is covered in RD's exceptional crystalline glazes. The tile measures 4 1/4" square and it is housed in an old Arts and Crafts era frame in a fine dark finish and profile. The backing paper was cut so that the impressed mark is visible. Overall it measures 8 1/4" square and 3/4" deep.
Although Dutch, these tiles were often sold in the USA by the Pardee Tile Company of Perth Amboy, NJ in the 1920's, along with their stock of Grueby tiles.
