Chrome Red Candle Jug by Smithfield Pottery North Carolina

This traditional jug form has a surprise when turned around. The body has a window cut into the clay and a has a little candle holder inside, making this a charming candle lantern. It is in a chrome red glaze with black accents. It measures 10 1/2" tall and 7" wide. The blackened and sanded bottom hints that it was made at the Smithfield Pottery in the 1930's. It remains in very good condition with a bit of roughness on bottom edge of the opening.
