Rare Vintage Art Deco Tile by Flint Faience

$ 995.00
This rare art deco era tile with a Persian inspired design was made at the Flint Faience Tile Company (1921-1933) in Flint MI. The design is on a faience clay body and is hand-decorated in a squeezebag technique.The tile measures 9 1/4" square and over 1/2" thick. The tile had been uninstalled and has some mortar on that back that hides any mark, But, the tile is well documented. The image was designed for a pool at the Park Gables Apartments in Chicago, still in use. This tile was photographed for the books Flint Faience A-Z by Galvas and Carney and is shown on page 28, pictured. This tile was also photographed for the Encyclopedia of American Art Tile by Norman Karlson and can be found in Vol 2  page 229. The condition is very good with mortar on the back and a small flake on the corner.

Although short lived, the company may be better known for making spark plugs for the Detroit auto industry.
