Providential Tile
Woman Reclining on Clouds, a Framed Art Nouveau Fireplace Frieze by Providential
$ 495.00
This pretty antique three tile panel has a scantily clad woman resting in clouds modeled in low relief. Made at the Providential Tile Works (1886-1913) in Trenton New Jersey and probably designed by Isaac Broome, each tile measures 6" square and covered in a pink/mauve majolica glaze. A soft mold and crazing gives this maiden an ethereal quality. It is enclosed in a simple black wooden frame with a burl trim. The backing has a window cut to expose the embossed marks. Overall it measures 6 3/4" tall and 18 3/4" wide and nearly 1 deep. Ready to hang on the wall.
At one time the tiles were installed and traces of cement can be seen on the back. The first tile has a small chip filled and touched up on the top right corner. Not examined out of the frame.
