This antique tile was made at the International Tile Company (1882-1888) of Brooklyn NY. It measures 6" square and 3/8" thick. The press molded image is after the allegorical interpretation of the four seasons, or four ages of man, by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844). This tile represents Winter or Old Age. It shows the mature couple with their pet cat. The back is marked with the company's NY Pretzel mark B.N.Y. and I.T.C. Beautiful and uncommon lavender glaze, the color of amethyst glass. This tile is in good condition with a shiny surface and little rubs to the high relief. The perimeter is rough with nicks and flakes, hidden if framed.
