Royal Delft Porceleyne de Fles
Arts and Crafts Flying Goose Tile in Frame by Royal Delft Porceleyne de Fles
$ 495.00
A wonderful Arts and Crafts era tile by Porcelyne de Fles otherwise known as Royal Delft. Designed in cuenca, or raised line, with crystalline matte glazes this tile features goose or duck flying through a marsh. This is referred to as a brick tile, meant to be mortared into a wall. The tile measures about 4 7/8" tall, 13 1/8" wide and 5/8" thick. Framed it measures 14" x 5 3/4" x 1". This is one of the animal tiles designed by L.E.F Bodart (1888-1933) in the 1910's. The back has an impressed mark as well as a decorator cypher for Thomas van Arum (1876-1955) employed at PF 1890-1945. The condition is excellent. An uncommon example.
Although Dutch these tiles were often sold in the USA by the Pardee Tile Company of Perth Amboy, NJ in the 1920's, along with their stock of Grueby tiles.
