A large hand formed ceramic tile plaque by Bertil Vallien for Hal Fromhold Studio. Measures 11" x 15" and depicts a whimsical representation of a lion with a sunflower mane and a bird riding on his back.
Bertil Vallien studied ceramics in Sweden and was a student of Stig Lindberg. He took an internship in the Los Angeles studio of Hal Fromhold in the early 1960's. There he produced this wonderful plaque and won awards and acclaim for his work. After only a couple of yearsin the USA , 1961-1963, he returned to Sweden, eventually turning his attention to art glass at the Kosta Boda factory.
