Karlsruhe Pottery Tile Still Life with Summer Fruit
A rare tile plaque by the German pottery Karlsruhe. A still life of flowers in a conical vase with summer fruit, a plum and peach. It measures 14 1/2" tall and 10 1/4" wide and 1 1/4" thick, the design shows off the thick crackled glass glaze. It has a wide and prominent faux bois frame, highly textured and dimensional in a grey wash. There are incised holes on the top edge and wire to facilitate hanging. These plaques were meant to be hung on the walls of a home or garden and used like a ceramic painting. They could still be used in an installation too!. The back has an impressed Karlsruhe mark and the code 7206 designed by Werner Meschede (1925-81) and only in production for one year, 1963. It remains in perfect condition.
