Johann von Schwarz
German Art Nouveau Ceramic Tile Plaque Carl Luber Johann von Schwarz
A beautiful Art Nouveau tile by Carl Sigmund Luber for Johann von Schwarz. The tile is approximately 4 3/4" wide and 14 1/2" long. The frame is 8 3/8" wide and 18" long. Luber was employed by Johann von Schwarz 1896-1906 and personally painted the faces of each woman on his ceramics. A similar unframed example can be found in the book Carl Sigmund Luber by Wolfgang Konig on page 78. The tile is in its original wooden Art Nouveau frame and although there are some tears in the backing paper, it has never been removed since it was placed inside the frame over 100 years ago. The condition is excellent. The tile has no crazing. The frame has some scuffs. The darkness in the photos along the edges of the tile are due to the shadow of the frame.
