Industria Ceramica Veggia Sassuolo
Italian Art Deco Tile Panel Lovers Picnic w Cows
A rare 20 tile Italian Art Deco panel by Industria Ceramica Veggia. Probably made in the 1930's it measures an impressive 24" tall and 30" wide. Each 6 inch tile is hand painted in glaze to make a scene of a stylish couple having a picnic in a landscape of green rolling hills, cows, cottages and the sea. Signed "Antium" on the lower right. Research found this Art Deco style font was used by the company at least as early as 1942. The backs of the tiles have an impressed mark "Industria Ceramica Veggia Sassuolo". Shallow flakes around edges and traces of mortar on the back.
