Lea & Boulton
Lea & Boulton Art Nouveau Poppy Tile
$ 98.00
A luscious Art Nouveau design of poppy pods graces the face of this tile made by Lea and Boulton (1896-1902). The tile measures 6" square. I have several of these tiles available. They came from a wash stand making the surfaces unworn and the backs clean. Each tile has one or two clipped corners, showing where the panel was held onto the stand with a screw and washer. When the light hits these just right the green and blue glazes have a luster effect. The back is marked "L. & B.T. ENGLAND"
Opium was popular in the early 1900s, therefore the poppy was a common image in the period's art.
