Terra Cotta Portrait Tile Artist Palette Victorian Aesthetic Architectural Brick
Post Civil War, probably 1860-80's red glazed brick architectural tile. The stippled surface has a central image of a woman's head in profile atop an artist's palette and brushes. The texture of the clay and finish is similar to pieces made by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company of Chicago, but is unmarked and the manufacturer remains a mystery. It is a piece of high quality. Measures 6 inches square and 1 inch thick.
