Unitile Lobster Tile Mosaic Design Arts and Crafts Era
The Unitile company was started by three brothers, an illustrator, a cartoonist and a governor in Urichsville Ohio in 1917. The tile images were often whimsical in nature. They used a process similar to that which was employed by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works where the finished grouted project would look like separate tiles making the pattern. The factory was destroyed by fire in 1927. With only 10 years of production and only employing 12-15 people, tiles from this company are very uncommon.
