Rare Volkmar Studio Tile
This is a beautiful and rare tile from the Volkmar studio. The landscape of two trees is painted in an impasto underglaze slip decoration in an impressionistic style. The tile measures 6 1/8" square and 3/4" thick. The sides are glazed in green. The tile is unmarked but retains an old illegible paper label. This tile probably dates to 1903-1911 when the studio was in Metuchen New Jersey. Tiles like these mark the apex of Charles Volkmar's work in the Arts & Crafts style. This tile can be purchased with an old oak frame as shown in the last photos for an additional $100. Just ask!
