William De Morgan
William De Morgan Flower Tile
A rare William De Morgan tile with a Persian inspired design in the English Arts and Crafts manner. Colored in rich blues and greens it has a central golden floral image. The surface is unworn and shiny. Made from a faience clay the back has an impressed mark for the Late Fulham Period, 1898 - 1907. This was found with others in the same pattern with Early Fulham Period marks, so this tile is probably early in the late period. It measures 6" square and is in excellent condition with only minor roughness around the perimeter.
I have never seen this pattern in person or for sale before and the colors are luscious. The fourth photo is from a page in the book "The Designs of William De Morgan" and shows an installation of tiles in this pattern at the Debenham House, Addison Road, London constructed 1904 - 1907. The last two photos show how this tile can be paired with another tile offered separately for an even more impressive display.
